PSEG LI to reimburse some customers for food, meds spoiled during Tropical Storm Isaias

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- PSEG Long Island customers who lost power for at least 72 hours as Tropical Storm Isaias battered the region can apply for reimbursements for food, medicine and other perishable items that spoiled during that time, the company said Monday.

The utility company will reimburse residential customers up to $250 and commercial customers up to $5,000 for spoiled food items, pending approval of their claims, it said in a release.

Customers will also be reimbursed up to $300 for spoiled prescription medications, the company said.

"Food spoilage claims of $150 or less must include an itemized list," the utility company said. "Food spoilage over $150 must include an itemized list and proof of loss (for example: cash register tapes, store or credit card receipts, canceled checks or photographs of spoiled items)."

"Customers must provide an itemized list of the medications and proof of loss (for example: pharmacy prescription label or pharmacy receipt identifying the medicine)," the company added.

Reimbursement requests must be submitted on or before Sept. 16.
