ly pleaded not guilty to racketeering and sex trafficking charges at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn Friday morning. He will continue to be held without bail and will eventually be brought back to Chicago where he faces federal child pornography and other charges.
Kelly, 52, is charged with taking advantage of five victims, one of whom he met at a concert of his, and one who he met at a radio station where she was an intern, court papers say.
Court papers also say he had one of the victims travel to a show in Long Island in 2017, where he had unprotected sex with her without letting her know he had an infectious venereal disease.
Kelly's lawyers said that the alleged victims "sought out Robert's attention, even fought each other for it, voluntarily contacted him, came to his shows, pined to be with him."
But lawyer Gloria Allred, who represents some of the "Jane Does," slammed R. Kelly's lawyers assertation that the victims are "disgruntled groupies." She said "they were not groupies," but they are brave women seeking justice and should not be victim-shamed.
