NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A rare “blue flower moon” will appear in the night sky on Saturday and people in the New York area should be able to catch a glimpse.

A blue moon is the third of four full moons in a given astronomical season.

Because this full moon is the third of spring 2019 it is called a “flower moon” – as in spring flowers.

According to astronomers, this moon will be especially big and bright. They say another moon this spectacular won’t come around again until August 2021.

The full moon will start to rise around 8 p.m. on the East Coast.

AccuWeather says conditions will be partly cloudy at sunset, so people in the Tri-State should be able to see the moon, if briefly.
