NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- She was sitting next to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez during the president's State of the Union address on Tuesday night, but it was Rep. Nydia Velazquez who made waves on Twitter.

Velazquez riled some users when she told CJ Pearson, a teenage political activist, that he should be 'afraid' after he mentioned her in a comment.

"Hi @TheCJPearson, I'm not "the woman sitting next to her". @AOC and I -- and millions like us -- are the future of this country. And you're right to be afraid of us. But you should learn my name," she said.

Pearson has been featured across a range of platforms from The Washington Post to Fox News, and describes himself as 'young, black, and unapologetically Republican.'

Some on Twitter questioned why Velazquez appeared to be 'threatening' a child.

On Wednesday afternoon, Pearson said it was 'a shame to see elected officials seeking to instill fear' in those they represent.
