NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The city's transit chief on Wednesday admitted that many Revel electric moped riders are still forgoing wearing helmets.
"Revel's been back on the streets for about two weeks, and so far, mostly I'd say the reports are a little mixed," Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg testified to city council members.
According to Trottenberg, she is "getting sent pictures of people not wearing helmets."
After fatal three crashes which included two victims not wearing a helmet, the service was forced to shut down in July until city officials were "satisfied it can be done safely."
The mopeds returned to New York City last month with added safety precautions including a new policy that requires customers to take a selfie of themselves in a helmet before riding.

According to a Revel rep, helmet selfies "are manually checked for compliance," and violators will be suspended.
"We have been in regular communication with city officials and community leaders, including the DOT, and are committed to working together to create safer streets," the rep said in a statement.
Trottenberg added that she plans to meet with Revel execs on Friday.
