Rider attacks MTA bus driver who kicked her off for threatening passenger: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A rider punched an MTA bus driver in the face after he told her and her companion to leave the bus because they were threatening another passenger, the NYPD said.

The 35-year-old man was driving an M2 bus near East 8th Street and Lafayette Street in Manhattan around 10:50 p.m. on Aug. 31 when a male and female passenger started threatening another rider, police said Sunday.

The driver told the passengers to leave the bus, which they did, then parked the bus near Astor Place and 3rd Avenue to take a break, the NYPD said.

That's when the male and female approached the parked bus and forced the door open, according to police.

The male passenger told the female passenger to beat the driver up, at which point she started punching the driver in the face, police said. The two passengers fled the scene soon after the attack, the NYPD said.

The bus driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries to his head, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
