NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Families for Safe Streets, an organization devoted to encouraging the rapid implementation of Vision Zero traffic policies, held a rally Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.

Speakers decried Mayor de Blasio and his administration for not doing enough for the success of Vision Zero, as traffic fatalities are up for the year.

Vision Zero is a plan for eliminating all traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

Attendees held signs with names of people killed in crashes.

Advocates are pushing the city to pass the Vision Zero Street Design Standard bill, which would force the city to take a more systemic and comprehensive approach to street design.

City Councilmember Mark Trayger said supporters would not stop until the mayor sees the urgency of the issue.

City council members Ydanis Rodriguez and Antonio Reynoso were also among those in attendance.
