NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A rare and ancient eBay item has customers doing a double-take and scientists outraged: it's the skeleton of a baby Tyrannosaurus rex.
The listing claims it’s the only such fossil in the world, and the starting bid is $2,950,000.
The post reads: "Most Likely the Only BABY T-Rex in the World! It has a 15 FOOT long Body and a 21" SKULL with Serrated Teeth!"
The 68-million-year-old dinosaur was put up for auction earlier this month by archaeologist Allan Detrich, who discovered the 15-foot-long baby T. Rex near Jordan, Montana, about six years ago.
He donated it to a museum at the University of Kansas, but officials say they knew nothing about the eBay sale.
Paleontologists are fighting the auction, fearing that once the dino falls into private hands, it might be lost from the public trust.
The T. Rex is still listed on eBay, but hasn’t received any bids.
