NYPD cruiser collides with another vehicle, which overturns, on its way to shooting incident in downtown Brooklyn

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An NYPD cruiser crashed into another car, prompting it to flip on its side, as the NYPD vehicle was on its way to investigate reports of shots fired at the MetroTech campus in downtown Brooklyn.

The officers crashed into the civilian car at Dekalb and Clinton Avenues.  


A male officer and a female officer suffered minor injuries. They were transported to Methodist Hospital.

The driver in the civilian vehicle was transported to Brooklyn Hospital with minor injuries. 

Video posted to Citizen, shows a silver Ford vehicle on its side and an NYPD cruiser with a dented hood nearby. The NYPD and FDNY are on the scene.

As for the shooting, which happened near Flatbush and Myrtle Avenues, a weapon was found in a garbage can. A 16-year-old suspect is in custody.  

After officers arrived, they were directed by witnesses to a man fleeing the scene who allegedly fired a shot into the air in the courtyard of MetroTech Center. Police caught up with him at DeKalb and Flatbush Avenues, where they arrested the teen.

NYU, which has a campus nearby, tweeted, "Shots reported near 6 MetroTech. NYPD has confirmed an investigation into shots fired in the vicinity of 6 MetroTech. One individual is in custody and another is at large. There are no reported injuries ... The NYPD investigation is active and @NYUDPS will continue to monitor the situation."
