EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A pilot was injured when a small plane crashed into a wooded area near the Southern State Parkway on Long Island, police say.
The plane crashed shortly after 4 p.m. between exits 32 and 33 in East Farmingdale, snarling traffic on the highway.
The crash site is a short distance away from the Republic Airport.
Police tell 1010 WINS that the pilot was the only person on board the plane and that he was alert and conscious when they rescued him.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
