NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Protesters and the NYPD got into a standoff at the Manhattan Bridge on Tuesday night as marchers from Brooklyn were stopped by police in lower Manhattan.
Dozens of videos on social media show protesters out after the 8 p.m. curfew stranded on the bridge as they were approached by officers on both sides around 9 p.m. Crowds chanted at the NYPD to let them through.
Among those on the bridge was a man dressed as Spider-Man. A video of the masked superhero sitting above the crowd went viral.
Many of the protesters eventually headed back to Brooklyn, with some seen exiting the bridge on the Brooklyn side around 10 p.m.
There were about 200 arrests overnight in New York City. It's unclear if any of them were made on the bridge.
Tuesday night was overall much quieter than Sunday and Monday, when widespread looting was reported. Most traffic was halted below 96th Street Tuesday night and the NYPD was out in force with the 8 p.m. curfew in effect.
Thousands protested again Tuesday over the death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis police.
