NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A state lawmaker is urging her colleagues to make fighting and preventing Lyme disease in New York a bigger priority.

Republican State Senator Sue Serino says investments in research, treatment and prevention are working to protect New Yorkers from the disease carried by ticks but more funding is needed.

Lawmakers are currently putting together this year’s budget.

Last year, they added a record $1,000,000 for Lyme disease prevention and education.

Serino will have more to say at a press conference tomorrow at the state capital, which will be followed by an expert panel on the disease and efforts to reduce infections.
