String of burglaries hits Upper East Side's Yorkville neighborhood: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- At least four apartments in the same Upper East Side neighborhood were burglarized within the past month, by thieves who broke in via fire escapes and windows, the NYPD said Monday. 

The first burglary happened at an apartment on East 80th Street, near Lexington Avenue, in Yorkville around 3 p.m. on July 18, a map tweeted by the 19th Precinct shows. 


A second burglary happened at an apartment on East 81st Street, near 2nd Avenue, around 5 a.m. on Aug. 1, and a third happened at a home on East 83rd Street, near 1st Avenue, around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 5. The most recent burglary took place at an apartment on East 81st Street, near York Avenue, around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, the map shows. 

"Suspect(s) enter via fire escape or other accessible windows," the precinct tweeted. "Please ensure your windows are always locked." 

"If you (see) anyone on roofs/fire escapes (call) 911 immediately," it added. 

Upper East Side residents who would like a "comprehensive security walkthrough and survey conducted" at their apartments can call the precinct's Crime Prevention Officer Anthony Nuccio at 212-452-0630, the precinct added.
