NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Brooklyn teen who was killed earlier this week died from a "retaliatory shooting" connected to a brutal stomping attack on a girl two months ago, police said.
Tyquan Howard, 16, was shot in the abdomen near St. John's Place near Utica Avenue in Crown Heights on Tuesday night, police said. He died hours later.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison told the Daily News that the shooting was a "retaliatory shooting" related to a stomping attack on a 15-year-old girl back on March 5.
Howard was a suspect in the attack on the girl, Harrison said, and the stomping attack and shooting have now been connected.
"[This was a] retaliatory shooting that stems from the young woman jumped and robbed by a group of boys over by the Albany Houses," Harrison said. "All of it is stemming from crew-on-crew, gang-on-gang violence."
Five teen boys were charged days after video captured the 15-year-old girl being attacked by more than a dozen teens on a Brooklyn street corner.
The boys turned themselves in at the 77th precinct and were charged as minors with robbery and gang assault, the NYPD told 1010 WINS in March.
The boys charged included two 14-year-olds, one 15-year-old, one 16-year-old and one 17-year-old.
The NYPD said they were still searching for more suspects.
Video shows the attackers punching, kicking and jumping on the girl repeatedly near the corner of Sterling Place and Utica Avenue.
The girl suffered bruising and swelling to her face and was taken to NYC Health & Hospitals/Kings County for treatment.
Police said the girl's sneakers, cellphone and debit card were stolen.
