Tip jar thieves attacking store workers in Queens

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police are searching for two men who have been violently attacking store workers who try to stop them from stealing their tip jars.

The NYPD says the men have gone into at least two cafes in Ridgewood, where they grabbed the tip jars and punched the workers when they tried to intervene.

The first robbery was at a grill and café on Weirfield Street, near Myrtle Avenue, late last month. Police said the two suspects walked out with a tip jar containing $40. When a 27-year-old clerk tried to stop them, he was punched in the face.

About a week later on Nov. 8, the two suspects grabbed a tip jar containing $100 from Café M on Seneca Avenue. A 30-year-old worker tried to get the tip jar back and she was punched in the head, police said.

Both victims suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

Police released surveillance images and video of the suspects on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
