Underground East Village gym raided for defying COVID-19 safety measures

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An underground Manhattan gym was raided by the city's sheriffs on Wednesday night, officials said.

At about 7:30 p.m., officials arrived at IG Fitness gym located on 14th Street and Second Avenue in the East Village and found about 50 people working out and not wearing masks, according to the sheriff’s office .

"Many were not wearing masks and not practicing social distancing," Sheriff Joseph Fucito told the New York Post in an email.

Gym owner, Milos Stevanovic was ticketed for violating the Mayor’s Emergency Order although gym goers were able to leave the fitness center without incident, Fucito added.

According to the report, the gym was attempting to run a "member’s only" gym club and were previously busted for operating during the lockdown.
