NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A chemical spill on the Upper East Side sent a person to the hospital with serious injuries on Tuesday morning.

A truck spilled 25 gallons of sodium hydroxide, known as lye, which can cause severe burns. It happened on 61st Street near Madison Ave just before 7 a.m.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
