Upper East Side hospital evacuated after chemical spill

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A chemical spill led to the evacuation of three floors of an Upper East Side hospital in Manhattan Wednesday, according to the FDNY.

The evacuation took place at about 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital on Madison Avenue near 100th Street.

Mount Sinai said in a statement, "A chemical incident occurred in a research laboratory, a non-patient care area, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The FDNY was immediately contacted, and they coordinated efforts to contain the incident."

The spill took place on the 19th floor of the hospital, officials said.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The spill, of sodium butoxide, has been contained.
