NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It's official: The U.S. Open will indeed take place in Queens this summer -- but without spectators, Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed Tuesday morning.

"The @usopen will be held in Queens, NY, without fans from August 31 to September 13," Cuomo tweeted, echoing an announcement he made at his daily briefing. "The USTA will take extraordinary precautions to protect players and staff, including robust testing, additional cleaning, extra locker room space, and dedicated housing & transportation."

"Our team has literally worked around the clock to figure out a way we can have the U.S. Open and do it in a safe way," Patrick Galbraith, the president of the U.S.T.A., said in a conference call with more than 400 men's players and coaches last Wednesday.
