NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Dr. Anthony Fauci threw out the first pitch Thursday night at the Washington Nationals-New York Yankees game in the nation's capital, which was the Nationals' home opener.
The Nationals previously described him as a Nationals "super-fan."
"Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the Covid-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season and defend our World Series Championship title," the team said in a statement earlier this week.
Both teams resonate with the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who is also a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force: He's a Brooklyn native who nows lives in the nation's capital. He's also been spotted wearing a Nationals face mask.
