WATCH: Maniac douses NYC apartment vestibule with gas, sets it on fire

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A fire in the entranceway of a Bronx apartment building was no accident — police say a man doused it in gasoline and then set it ablaze.

The vestibule of the building on Bailey Avenue in Kingsbridge when up in flames Sunday, terrifying residents.


1010 WINS obtained surveillance video showing the man entering the vestibule, pouring the gasoline and then lighting it, sparking a burst of smoke and fire that quickly consumed the entranceway.

Super James Torres heard the fire alarm and summoned the fire department.

"I saw the smoke coming out around the hallway and I called 911 right away," he said.

Meanwhile, frightened residents like Carla didn't know what was going on.

"I didn't even know what was happening," she said.

Fortunately no one was hurt in the fire.

Police are now trying to identify the man seen in the video.
