BOSTON (1010 WINS) – A Marine veteran crawled to the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday, pushing through the pain to honor his fallen comrades.

Micah Herndon paid tribute to fellow Marines Mark Juarez and Matthew Ballard, as well as British journalist Rupert Hamer, according to TODAY.

The three of them were killed when an improvised explosive destroyed their vehicle in Afghanistan. Herndon survived.

“I run in honor of them,” he told the Record-Courier. "They are not here anymore. I am here, and I am able."

This was Herndon’s first marathon, and when he became exhausted, his memory of them helped push him to the finish line.

“If I get a heat cramp while running or my feet hurt or I am getting exhausted, I just keep saying their names out loud to myself,'” he told the Record-Courier.

Herndon says he’s not only lucky to be alive but lucky to still have his limbs and be able to run.
