NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An NYPD officer hopped on a confiscated dirt bike in Harlem Sunday evening, and crashed it as he was taking it to a precinct -- now police have launched an internal review.

Video posted online shows the officer popping a wheelie and driving off on the bike at 135th Street and Lenox Avenue before narrowly missing a car and losing control.

The officer crashes onto the street and the bike skids into a car stopped at a red light, the video shows.

A crowd of people can be heard cheering as the officer quickly gets up off the pavement.

Officials told CBS 2 that police were in the middle of investigating a man who’d been riding recklessly on the bike. They say he ditched the bike, hopped onto a second person’s bike and took off.

The bike the officer was riding had been impounded and he was heading back to the precinct station house when he lost control.

An internal review of the incident is being conducted, according to officials.

Two officers were taken to an area hospital to be treated, CBS 2 reported. No one else was injured.
