NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A live interview between Piers Morgan and Rudy Giuliani on Thursday descended into a fiery back-and-forth that included shouting and personal attacks, with Morgan calling the former New York City mayor “abusive” and “completely mad” and Giuliani saying the TV host was a “failed journalist” and a “disgrace.”
The interviewed, aired on ITV's “Good Morning Britain,” devolved after about four minutes, when Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, was asked about Trump’s “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” tweet.
Giuliani said controversy over the tweet shows how the “left-wing” media “deliberately misinterprets President Trump.”
“Rudy, I’m sorry, but you’re talking total claptrap,” Morgan said. “With respect, you keep saying it’s the left-wing media that’s somehow misquoted President Trump.”
Morgan, who has voiced support for Trump in the past, said it’s the president’s job to “keep temperatures down, not to put fuel on the fire.” He said Trump was “directly quoting a racist police chief back in the ‘60s who used dogs and guns on black people.”
“Do you think he went to a book and took that out of a book knowing it came from the racist police chief?” Giuliani said. “Of course, he didn’t. That’s a media creation.”
The interview went further south from there, including this blistering back-and-forth:
Giuliani: “You’re a disgrace, and the interview is over as far as I’m concerned.”
Morgan: “You sound completely barking mad, do you know that?”
Giuliani: “No, I don’t. You sound like a big liar.”
Morgan: “You’ve lost the plot, and it’s sad to see.”
Giuliani: “You’re the one who got thrown off the television here because you had rating that were about 2—so don’t’ tell me I’ve lost anything.”
Morgan: “You keep going, Rudy.”
Giuliani: “I know what happened to your show, Piers, and I remember the mistakes you made, and I remember how you *****d up.”
The interview ended shortly after another heated exchange:
Morgan: “When I used to interview you, you were an intelligent reasonable man and you’ve gone completely mad, and you sound deranged. You’re abusive and it’s really sad to see what’s happened to you.”
Giuliani: “It was really sad to see the way your career imploded in the United States, Piers. If you think I have any respect for you after this, well maybe you don’t care. But everyone in America knows you’re a failed journalist.”
Morgan: “Really, you know what, Rudy. I had the stomach to stand up to say that your gun culture is completely out of control and unacceptable, and people like you kept telling me, ‘Don’t be ridiculous, we are entitled to go on shooting each other all day long.’”
Giuliani: “Now you’re lying again. Go find the quote from me about your stupid comment. I didn’t quote that. I was nice enough to keep my mouth shut about you, because I liked you. But you were thrown out of your job.”
Morgan: “You’ve come on here. You’ve been rude and abusive. You sound unhinged. You’ve been using profanity. And you were somebody I used to admire, Rudy.”
