SAG HARBOR, NY (1010 WINS) -- Someone tied cords across nature trails in Sag Harbor in an apparent attempt to keep dirt bikers and ATV riders off the paths — and a young ATV rider was seriously injured as a result, police said Wednesday.

A “juvenile” was riding an ATV on a nature trail in Sag Harbor around 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 7 when a parachute cord tied across the path caught him by the neck, throwing him from his vehicle, Suffolk County police said.

The boy, whose age wasn’t released, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, according to police. The police department is now searching for the person or people responsible for tying the cords.

“The cords are difficult to see and may cause serious physical injury or death,” the police department said in a release.

The department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of whoever tied the cords across the paths.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
