NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Eric Adams formally launched his general election campaign Monday with the high-profile endorsements of several Democratic state and local officials.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer, Reps. Gregory Meeks, Grace Meng and Jerrold Nadler, as well as dozens of state Senators, Assembly Members and NYC Council Members, offered their praise for the Brooklyn Borough President.
"I am proud to endorse Democratic nominee and my fellow Brooklynite, Borough President Eric Adams, to be the next mayor of the Big Apple," Schumer said in a statement. "Borough President Adams brings decades of substantial professional bona fides and a unique lived experience to the job, and I look forward to working with him to maximize federal policy and material support to help New York City defeat Covid and continue its robust and just economic recovery.”
De Blasio said no one better than Adams understands what "working people" go through, according to WABC 7.
Former New York City Sanitation Department Kathryn Garcia Commissioner, who fell second to Adams during the primary, echoed De Blasio's comments commending his leadership and public service.
"Eric Adams has dedicated his career to serving New Yorkers and democratic leadership at City Hall is pivotal in this moment to move our city forward," she said. "I encourage all New Yorkers to support our democratic nominee for mayor, Eric Adams."
Adams said he was grateful for their support that highlights Democratic unity.
"I am honored and humbled to receive the support of so many leaders from every corner of the city," he said. "This is an incredible show of unity. We may not all agree on everything, but there is one thing all of us can support: this city must be led by a Democrat who will put working people and struggling New Yorkers first — and you better believe that person is me."
