Cloris Leachman, the Oscar- and Emmy-award winning star of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," has died. She was 94.
"It’s been my privilege to work with Cloris Leachman, one of the most fearless actresses of our time," her longtime manager, Juliet Green, said in a statement. "There was no one like Cloris. With a single look she had the ability to break your heart or make you laugh 'till the tears ran down your face. You never knew what Cloris was going to say or do and that unpredictable quality was part of her unparalleled magic."
Green added, "She loved her children and her grandchildren ferociously. A lifelong vegetarian, she was a passionate advocate for animal rights."
Green said the family requests that any donations in her name be made to PETA or Last Chance for Animals.
Green said Leachman died of natural causes in Encinitas, California.
Leachman won two Emmys for her playing Phyllis Lindstrom on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." In 1975, she starred in the titular role in the spin-off series, "Phyllis."
The Iowa native took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1971 film "The Last Picture Show."
Other film credits include "Young Frankenstein," "Butch Cassidy and the Sunshine Kid," "History of the World Part 1," "Spanglish" and "Scary Movie 4."
Throughout her career, Leachman received a total of 8 Emmy Awards and is tied with Julia Louis-Dreyfus for most wins by an actress. Most recently, she took home the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for her work on "Macolm in the Middle."
Her long list of television credits include appearances on "Facts of Life," "Mad About You," "Two and a Half Men," "Raising Hope" and "American Gods." In 2008, she also showed off her moves appearing as a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars."
