VIDEO: 1 hurt after NJ house explodes amid deadly flooding

RAHWAY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A house in New Jersey exploded after it flooded early Thursday morning, injuring a man who was driving by, according to reports.

The home on River Road, near Whittier Street, in Rahway exploded around 5:45 a.m., ABC7 reported.

Helicopter footage obtained by the outlet showed the aftermath of the blast.

No one was inside the home when the explosion happened, as flooding caused by Hurricane Ida forced its residents to evacuate around 1 a.m., the outlet reported.

A man who was driving past the home when the explosion happened, however, suffered minor injuries, according to the outlet. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the explosion. An investigation is ongoing.
