ELIZABETH, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Nearly a dozen people suffered non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday when an NJ Transit bus struck a cement truck on the NJ Turnpike, officials said.

The No. 139 line bus was headed to Port Authority Bus Terminal from Lakewood around 7:30 a.m. when it collided with the tractor-trailer near Interchange 13 in Elizabeth, according to NJ Transit and state police.

Of the 32 passengers aboard the bus at the time, nine were treated for minor injuries, as was the bus operator, officials said.

The uninjured passengers got on another bus to Manhattan.

The wreck was cleared by 9:30 a.m., but traffic was still a mess.

State police are leading an investigation into the crash.
