MONTVALE, N.J. (AP) — A school bus carrying 31 people overturned on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey, sending more than a dozen people to hospitals, including a critically injured teen, officials said.

New Jersey State Police said 13 people, including the driver and 12 adolescents, were treated for injuries from the Monday night crash in Montvale.

A teen boy who was pinned under the bus suffered critical injuries. The boy, who's reportedly 14 years old, was hospitalized at Valley Hospital in Paramus.

Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali said around 9:30 p.m. that the teen "now has a pulse."

Citizen App video from the scene showed a yellow school bus on its side with the rear emergency door open and a large number of emergency responders.

Gov. Phil Murphy said in a social media post that he had been briefed on the crash involving a bus from Lakewood, which was traveling about 100 miles to New Square in Rockland County when it crashed.

State police and the state Department of Transportation were on the scene and an investigation into the cause of the crash was ongoing, Murphy said.
