EAST ROCKAWAY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – Fourteen puppies were found abandoned inside a cage in an alleyway on Long Island, Nassau County police said Friday.

The puppies were discovered in an alley off of Centre Avenue in East Rockaway around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Someone called 911 for a call about barking dogs. Responding officers found a plastic cage with the 14 puppies inside.

The puppies were taken to the Town of Hempstead Animal Control, where they are being medically assessed and treated.

An investigation into the abandonment is ongoing, police said.
