SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Seven people, including five teenagers, were indicted on charges of murder, abduction and carjacking for the alleged killing of a stranger on Long Island who parked in front of one of the suspect’s homes, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on Tuesday.
A Georgia man, 27-year-old Christopher Perdomo, is charged with killing Linver Ortiz Ponce, 29, after he parked in front of Perdomo’s friend’s home in Bay Shore.
That friend, 22-year-old Kayla Alvarenga, and five teenagers are also charged in the murder and with related crimes, prosecutors said.
According to the investigation, just before midnight on Sept. 16, 2022, Ortiz Ponce parked his red Chevrolet Camaro in front of Alvarenga’s house. She was angry, and prosecutors said she confronted the victim, ordering him to move his car.
During the dispute, prosecutors said that Alvarenga called friends, including Perdomo, and instructed them to “come take care of the victim” in front of her home.
Perdomo and three teenagers—ages 16, 16 and 17—allegedly headed the call and drove to Alvarenga’s house in a BMW they had allegedly carjacked from a young woman in Bay Shore hours before. The four suspects are then accused of dragging Ortiz Ponce from his car, beating him and stealing his Camaro.
Video surveillance from a nearby gas station shows the stolen BMW and Camaro pulling away from Alvarenga’s house, and Ortiz Ponce fleeing to a gas station, where he tried to hide behind vehicles.
After seeing that the victim got away, Alvaranga allegedly instructed the group, including two additional teenagers ages 16 and 17, to find the victim, abduct him and kill him.
In the two stolen vehicles, the seven suspects searched the Bay Shore area for Ortiz Ponce, before locating him at the gas station.
Video surveillance captured the abduction of the victim at gunpoint, and he was allegedly dragged by Perdomo and others while visibly struggling into the BMW.
Prosecutors said that the group took Ortiz Ponce to a church parking lot where Alvarenga believed there weren’t camera.
While driving, Perdomo allegedly beat the victim with a gun repeatedly. Once at the church, video surveillance shows seven occupants of the stolen vehicles severely beat the victim.
Alvarenga then allegedly told Perdomo to kill Ortiz Ponce, and he is accused of shooting the victim multiple times as he tried to crawl away.
Both cars fled the scene, and they were abandoned in nearby Long Island towns. After Ubering back to Alvarenga’s the contents of Ortiz Ponce’s wallet were allegedly distributed among the group.
“The alleged murder in this case occurred with no provocation and for no good reason," Tierney said. "No one deserves to suffer a violent death for simply parking a car. The alleged brutality showed here is unconscionable."
Perdomo, who moved to Georgia in May 2024, was apprehended in the state and arraigned on Oct. 16 on charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and conspiracy. He faces life in prison and is due back in court on Nov. 13.
“I assure you that the truth about what happened and why, and who bears responsibility will become clear as this case proceed," Manhattan-based attorney Rob C. Gottlieb said to Newsday in an email.
Alvarenga will be arraigned on Oct. 30.
The five teenagers are in custody, with charges pending, prosecutors said.
