OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — At least two children and four adults were hospitalized due to a three-vehicle collision on Long Island Tuesday afternoon, the Old Westbury police chief said.
Police Chief Stuart Cameron said that a dump truck was traveling down Post Road and through the intersection on Store Hill Road in Old Westbury at about 3:30 p.m. when the driver slammed into a school bus and SUV.
“The driver reported to us that he lost his brakes. He was facing a red light,” Stuart said. “The truck collided with both the SUV and the school bus and overturned.”
The truck driver, SUV driver, school bus driver and an aide on the bus were all transported to a local area hospital, police said.
The injuries of the two children are minor, and they were transported to Cohen Children’s Medical Center.
Asphalt from the back of the truck fell into the roadway when it overturned, leading to what Cameron described as “a pretty large cleanup.”
