NASSAU COUNTY, NY (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An investigation is underway after two people were killed and four others were injured in a multi-car crash on Long Island Friday night, the Nassau County Police Department said.

According to detectives, at 11:02 p.m. on Friday a 2005 Chrysler was moving eastbound on Fulton Avenue in Hempstead when it hit a 2021 Genesis, containing four passengers, at Hilton Avenue.

The Chrysler fled the scene and continued eastbound down Fulton Avenue before striking a string of cars when it failed to stop at a red light at Main Street, officials said.

The Chrysler crashed into a 2023 Kia, a 2007 Honda and a 2020 Toyota, police said.

Due to the collision, the Chrysler caught fire and became engulfed in flames.

The Hempstead Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, and the two occupants of the Chrysler were pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Authorities said that a six-year-old boy, eight-year-old girl and two women ages 23 and 44, all of which were in the 2020 Toyota, were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

All other occupants of involved cars refused medical attention.

The investigation is ongoing.
