NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A three-part documentary series about New York native Gabby Petito’s disappearance and murder is coming to Netflix next month.

The series, “American Murder: Gabby Petito,” premieres on the streaming platform on Feb. 17.

This is the first major docuseries to dive into the infamous 2021 case of Petito and her fiancé Brian Laundrie—the young “van life” couple from Long Island who went on a cross-country summer road trip that ended in tragedy.

According to a post Tuesday on the Netflix blog, the series “goes beyond the media frenzy to let Petito’s family and friends share her story.”

“Illustrated with real text messages, video footage, and excerpts from Petito’s personal journals, the series captures the reality of a young woman enmeshed in an abusive relationship behind closed doors — even as she put on a happy, ‘Insta-perfect’ face for social media,” Netflix says.

Petito and Laundrie were out west when she went missing in September 2021. Laundrie returned to his parents’ home in Florida without her before the FBI found her remains near Grand Teton National Park. Laundrie too went missing, sparking a manhunt that led police to his remains in a Florida swamp. He died by suicide and left a notebook in which he admitted to killing Petito.

The case unfolded in real-time and included several unexpected twists and turns, setting off a media frenzy as internet sleuths tried to figure out what had unfolded on the ill-fated road trip.
