LAKEWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Authorities are investigating the death of an 8-week-old girl that was left alone in a hot car "for an extended period" by her father Tuesday afternoon in New Jersey.
Avraham Chaitovsky, 28, of Jackson, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Additional charges are possible, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
At about 1:45 p.m., Lakewood police were called to the area of New Egypt Road, authorities said.
Hatzolah Medical Services had begun rendering aid when officers arrived, and the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the baby was Chaitovsky’s daughter and that he had left her alone for extended period of time. "The act of leaving the infant in the car unattended for such a long period of time was the cause and manner of the infant’s death," prosecutors said.
Chaitovsky was was taken into custody and transported to the Ocean County jail where he remains.
An investigation remains ongoing.
