9 NJ towns issued boil water advisory as pipe repairs continue

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey American Water said it plans to distribute free bottled water on Tuesday after a boil-water advisory was issued in nine New Jersey towns due to a water main leak caused by repairs continue.

The advisory was issued as a result of loss of water pressure from a transmission main leak along Possumtown Road in Piscataway, N.J., for customers in the following towns:

- Clark
- Dunellen
- Edison
- Green Brook
- Linden
- Middlesex
- Piscataway
- Roselle
- South Plainfield

There will be free bottled water distributed at the Piscataway Municipal Complex, 495 Sidney Road, and at the PSE&G building located at 4000 Hadley Road in South Plainfielduntil 10 p.m. with additional sites are expected to be added later in the day.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, preparing foods, mixing baby formula, food, juices, or drinks, as well as washing vegetables and fruit, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, and washing dishes until further notice, the water company said.

It might take up to 48 hours to confirm that water is safe to use without being boiled once service has been fully restored, American Water said.
