OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Police found a small white dog abandoned in a New Jersey dumpster on Tuesday morning and discovered that it had been left overnight in the bitter cold, the Old Bridge Police Department said.

The dog, which is believed to be around 2-years-old and of the Bichon Frise breed, was found when officers responded to the Glenwood Maintenance Office in Old Bridge at about 9:16 a.m., police said. One of the maintenance office’s employees called authorities after spotting a dog inside a dumpster.

Based upon surveillance video form several residents, police believe that the dog was dropped in the receptacle at around 10 p.m. the night before, meaning it was in the cold temperatures for over 11 hours.

The man who left the dog in the dumpster was identified as a 26-year-old male resident of Old Bridge, and he is facing charges.

Officers with the Old Bridge Police Department distributed the surveillance videos to the public to ascertain the identity of the suspect, and he was identified as a 26-year-old male resident of the township. He was charged with animal neglect and animal abuse, authorities said.

The dog was seen by a veterinarian who determined it was in good health. It is now being cared for at the Old Bridge Animal Shelter.

Inquiries about adoption for the pup will occur at a later date, police said.
