ALBANY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Fourteen quality assurance testers at Blizzard Albany, one outpost of video game giant Activision Blizzard, voted to join the Communication Workers of America on Friday.
They are the second group of workers to win a vote to unionize at the company.
With 18 eligible voters, 14 voted yes, three ballots were challenged by Activision Blizzard and one ballot was voided.
Activision Blizzard now has five days to object to the election. If they don’t, the union will be certified.
“We are considering various options, with a focus on what is best for all employees and to provide the best games for our millions of players,” an Activision Blizzard spokesperson told 1010 WINS. “We still believe our entire Albany team should have the right to vote. This is about fundamental fairness and rights for every member of the team.”
The Albany union, dubbed Game Workers of America Albany, is part of the team that produces the Diablo series.
In a July Twitter thread, the group said workers are seeking better compensation and work-life balance.
They also want to address pay disparities and workplace misconduct.
Over the course of the past year, Activision Blizzard has faced a slew of lawsuits, worker walkouts and accusations of retaliatory firings. Most of the lawsuits centered around alleged sexual harassment.
This is the second group of Activision Blizzard quality assurance testers to unionize. On May, 19 workers from the company’s Wisconsin branch also voted to join the CWA.
