A group of Black Lives Matter protesters blocked traffic and painted the roadway on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge as part of a caravan demonstration late Sunday.

The group originally got out of their vehicles after the tunnel at Treasure Island just before 5 p.m., then moved up the roadway to about halfway over the San Francisco side of the span. Many dispersed after a brief standoff with officers, but their vehicles remained on the bridge.

It took over an hour for officers to move all of them.

Overhead video showed officers in riot gear tackling some demonstrators in an effort to gain control over the group as vehicles sat in traffic well beyond the toll plaza. Traffic into San Francisco was eventually able to get through very slowly as officers in riot gear remained on the bridge surrounding the "#BLM" mural.

Several squad cars, vans and motorcycles also sat on the roadway.
