NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Music legend and New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen offered his endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz in the 2024 election on Thursday, while admonishing GOP candidate former President Donald Trump as “dangerous.”
Springsteen, 75, said that he has been asked by friends, fans and the press about his vote, and used a three-minute video on his official Instagram to offer his opinion, which he called “no more or less important than those of any of my fellow citizens.”
While wearing a plaid jacket and sitting in a diner, the “Born in the U.S.A.” singer pointed to the extreme political, spiritual and emotional divide across the nation during what he called “one of the most consequential elections in our nation’s history,” and contrasted his perception of the nominees.
“Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime,” Springsteen said. “His disdain for the sanctity of our Constitution, the sanctity of democracy, the sanctity of the rule of law and the sanctity of the peaceful transition of power should disqualify him from the office of president ever again.”
Springsteen, or “The Boss,” is a longstanding supporter of the Democratic Party, having previously campaigned for former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden.
And while the artist said he “respects your choice as a fellow citizen,” he pointed to what he sees as an attitude of inclusion in the Democratic platform that would provide for people of all classes and identities, not just the privileged.
“Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects everyone, regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view or sexual identity,” Springsteen said. “And they want to grow our economy in a way that benefits all, not just the few, like me, on top. That’s the vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years.”
Other powerful celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock and Oprah Winfrey, have also endorsed Harris.
