NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- And so it is written, the financial bible has spoken: Walmart has snagged the top spot of the 2024 Fortune 500 (complete list), an honor it has had for the past 12 years.
This year's list -- released Tuesday morning and celebrating its 70th year -- ranks the largest U.S. corporations by revenue for the 2023 fiscal year. Amazon, Apple, UnitedHealth Group and Berkshire Hathaway followed Walmart to round out the top five.

There are 49 companies that have been on the Fortune 500 for all of its 70 years, Fortune editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell points out in her editor's note in the June/July 2024 issue. "Staying big and successful for 70 years is no easy feat," she writes. "The lifespan of most large companies is only a few decades.”
