BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- One kitten survived after cats were thrown from a moving vehicle on Montauk Highway in Suffolk County this summer, police said Friday as they continue to search for the heartless person responsible.

Suffolk County police released a photo of the surviving kitten and said their detectives and members of the Suffolk County D.A.’s animal safety team are continuing to investigate the case of cruelty in West Babylon.

According to police, two kittens were thrown from a sedan that was traveling westbound on Montauk Highway, near Fleets Point Drive, on the morning of June 17.

After the cats were thrown from the car around 9 a.m., one of them was struck and killed by a passing motorist, police said.

The second kitten survived and was transported for veterinary care.

Police haven't released any photos or a description of the suspect's vehicle.
