HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Four more Connecticut residents have contracted the new COVID-19 strain first found in the United Kingdom, Gov. Ned Lamont said Monday.

The four residents who tested positive for the more highly-contagious COVID-19 strain live in New Haven and Oxford, Lamont said on Twitter.

Two of the four residents live in the same household, he noted. One of the residents, meanwhile, recently traveled to the United Arab Emirates and "had contact with a person who tested positive there," he said.

Health officials haven't yet confirmed whether the other three residents traveled recently, he noted. The four new cases brought the state's U.K. case total to eight.

"This new strain is spreading quickly throughout the world, and it's highly likely that these are not the only eight cases in Connecticut, which is why it is so important that everyone continues taking precautions to prevent transmission," Lamont wrote on Twitter.

"The health of Connecticut residents remains our top priority, and our public health officials will continue to closely monitor these cases and any other developments with this contagious virus," he added.

Connecticut reported a total of 92 new COVID-19-related fatalities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, bringing its death toll to 6,911, Lamont said.

Of the 123,037 COVID-19 test results that came back over those three days, 5,817, or 4.73 percent, were positive, he said.

As of Sunday night, 1,068 Connecticut residents were hospitalized with COVID-19.

The state has also administered a total of 308,502 COVID-19 vaccine doses so far, the governor noted.
