
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Rescue crews found the body of a New York man on Monday evening following the sinking of a small fishing boat in Long Island Sound during the weekend, authorities said.
Police received an alert about the capsizing after a passing boater near Connecticut's Cockenoe Island spotted a man standing on a navigational buoy on Sunday.
A search and rescue effort started when three people were rescued from the water. All three individuals were safely transported to Norwalk Marina and later taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Westport Police initiated a search for two missing individuals and one was found on Monday.
The Westport Police Marine Division found the sunken fishing boat around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
By 4:30 p.m., a body identified to be 38-year-old Juan Gabriel Valle Pineda from Spring Valley, NY was spotted approximately three miles northeast of the sunken boat.
Pineda’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
One boater remains missing.
Authorities announced that they have suspended the search after coordination with the United States Coast Guard.
