WATERBURY, CT (1010 WINS) — A Connecticut woman pleaded guilty in court Wednesday to embezzling more than $250,000 from the credit union where she worked, authorities said.
The 50-year-old Beacon Falls woman, Tara Kewalis, used her position as the CEO of Skyline Financial Federal Credit Union in Waterbury to create fake accounts and make fraudulent entries to steal money, court documents show.
Kewalis stole $254,532 from the credit union between Sept. 2016 and her termination in March 2021, according to officials.
The ex-CEO pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement by a credit union officer or employee. She faces up to 30 years in prison when she sentenced on March 1.
Kewalis was released on a $50,000 bond until her sentencing.
