KEARNY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A dispute over a long checkout line at a Marshalls store in New Jersey escalated into a violent stabbing over the weekend, authorities said.
According to police, Amber Thompson, 25, and the victim were both on line inside the Kearny store on Saturday, when Thompson became irate and argued with the shopper over the speed of the line. The victim and her family left the store after Thompson allegedly threatened to harm her.
Thompson then allegedly purchased a set of kitchen knives from the Kearny store, took one from the package, and pursued the victim into the parking lot. She then allegedly stabbed the woman multiple times, officials said.
Responding officers found the victim in the parking lot with several puncture wounds. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police located Thompson, who was hiding inside the store's bathroom and discovered a bloody knife on a baby changing table.
Thompson was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and endangering another person.
"We are aware of the incident that occurred in the parking lot outside of our store last week. At Marshalls, the safety and security of our Associates and customers is important to us, and we're grateful for the swift response of the Kearney Police Department," a Marshalls spokesperson said in a statement.
