
LINCOLN PARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A driver at a railroad crossing was fatally struck by a Hoboken-bound NJ Transit train Monday morning, officials said.
The train struck the vehicle just before 9:30 a.m. at the Ryerson Road crossing in Lincoln Park, a NJ Transit spokesman said.
The Montclair-Boonton Line train left Hackettstown at 8:24 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 10:30 a.m.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released by officials.
There were about 40 passengers and crew aboard the train and were uninjured. Passengers were taken by bus to their destination.
According to preliminary reports, the motorist drove around the crossing gates which were working and in the down position at the time of the crash, and stopped his vehicle on the tracks in the path of the train.
