NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A former NYPD officer was sentenced to 48 months in prison Friday in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot.
Valerie Cincinelli, of Oceanside, Long Island, plead guilty in April to one charge of obstruction of justice.

According to prosecutors, Cincinelli tried to pay a hitman with gold coins to kill her estranged husband, Isaiah Carvalho, as well as her now ex-boyfriend’s daughter.
Her then-boyfriend, John DiRubba, was originally part of the plot and was tasked with hiring the hitman, prosecutors said. However, he eventually confessed to authorities and worked with them to arrest Cincinelli.
According to Newsday, as part of a plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop two murder-for-hire charges against Cincinelli – which are each punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors agreed not to ask for more than 60 months behind bars, WABC-TV reported. As Cincinelli has already served 30 months behind bars, it’s possible she will be eligible for home confinement in just six months.
According to the ABC report, prosecutors said Cincinelli was driven to the murder-for-hire plot as she did not want to share her pension with her estranged husband, and also felt her then-boyfriend was spending too much time and money on his teenage daughter.
Following the sentencing, Dennis Lemke, a lawyer for Carvalho, told WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall that her estranged husband feels the prison time is not enough.
“He just wants to get on with his life, with his son, and he’s going to be worried – he’s going to be looking over his shoulder when she gets out,” Lemke said.
The attorney added that divorce proceedings between Carvalho and Cincinelli are still ongoing.
Prior to her indictment, Cincinelli had been an NYPD officer for 12 years and was assigned to the 106th Precinct in Queens. She was suspended without pay following her 2019 arrest and resigned earlier this year.
