FAIRFIELD, CT (1010 WINS) -- A Fairfield woman has been arrested for allegedly spray painting “Biden for socialism,” “United States of China” and other political messages on an elementary school sidewalk and a T.J. Maxx building.

Emily Winters, 65, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief after she turned herself into police on Wednesday, the Fairfield Police Department said in a release.

A Fairfield Board of Education employee discovered the phrase “United States of China” spray painted on a sidewalk outside McKinley Elementary School around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 13, police said.

The phrase was sprayed on the same sidewalk from which workers had previously removed graffiti that read “Biden for socialism,” according to police.

Later that night, police discovered similar messages spray painted on a T.J. Maxx building on Tunxis Hill Cutoff, the department said.

The two incidents “caused a great deal of alarm and varying levels of concern for many living within our community,” the department noted.

Winters confessed to spray painting the messages when she turned herself in, police said. She is expected to appear in court on Feb. 12.

Her attorney information wasn’t immediately available Friday.
